MODEL RAILWAYS

Ardlorn Ferry 4mm

An ‘00’ scale model railway layout in a compact size which features many kit-built locomotives, boats, road vehicles and other items of rolling stock

Description

'Ardlorn Ferry' is located on the West Coast of Scotland. There is a small single platform terminus which serves the car ferry, distillery and 'Elkins' fish smokery. The time is late 1950s/very early 60s when steam was just giving way to diesel, but this area was the last haunt of Caley 0-4-4Ts, 'Jumbos' and other old Scottish steam locomotives. Expect to see some of these at 'Ardlorn Ferry', but any suitable Scottish-based locomotive may appear.

The rolling stock features mainly kit built examples, many built by Aidan Houlders or Peter Whyborn, and the latter built the ferry and some of the road vehicles too. Some of the buildings are those recovered from the original 'Ardlorn' exhibition layout which sadly succumbed to a flood a few years ago.

Nothing runs on Ardlorn Ferry straight from the box, and every attempt is made to match the correct locomotives to location and period. The same is true of the rest of the rolling stock, with a plenty of kit built coaches, freight stock and service vehicles on display. Of special interest are the boats and road vehicles, many of which are also kit-built.

Special thanks to all who have helped with the building and operation of ‘Ardlorn Ferry’.

New Harbour Junction 7mm

At just 14ft x 1ft 4in this is a compact 0 Gauge layout of the interchange point between the British Railways line and the parallel light railway serving a small [off scene] dock complex

Passengers can change from the British Railways train (more often than not a ‘Derby Lightweight’ railcar) to the adjacent light railway which provides a ‘Galloping Goose’ railcar for their passengers.

Freight wagons are hauled up from the harbour by a variety of steam or diesel industrial locomotives, to be collected by the BR pick-up goods using the connecting spur.

Larger BR tender locomotives often pass by New Harbour Junction as light engines on their way to a nearby motive power depot.

The layout can be operated to accommodate rolling stock from different parts of the country so changes in location may be made during an exhibition.

Moreton New Shed 4mm

A new layout based on the former 'Moreton Loco' which has been extended and fully refurbished. Now available for exhibition .

"Moreton New Shed"

"Moreton New Shed" shows part of a motive power depot in the British Railways steam era between the dates 1950-68 and features a large number of kit-built and detailed ready-to-run locomotives. The scene depicts some quite new locomotive servicing facilities built as an addition to a larger MPD, including facilities for diesel locomotives. . The layout may be operated featuring engines from different areas of the country, particularly Scotland. The layout can even reflect a different regional emphasis several times during the course of an exhibition. The layout replaces the former ‘Moreton Loco’ which appeared at exhibitions a few years ago and was sadly ruined by flood water after storms in 2007. Some of the scenic items salvaged from that layout are to be seen on this new locomotive shed scene.
